Art For The Love Of Muhammad (PBUH)
Islamic Arts Society organized a competition to showcase our love and reverence for Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslim have a long and dignified tradition of extolling the virtues of our beloved prophet in prose and poetry. The present competition seeks to exalt the remembrance of the Holy Prophet through visual art.
The recent controversy over the cartoons of our beloved prophet has attracted much worldwide attention. While some see it as freedom of speech, we believe that our beloved Prophet’s position is higher than these slurs. Exalted is his place and he is the source of blessing upon the entire universe.
While the majority of Muslim world has expressed sorrow over the senseless abuse of freedom of speech, some have taken matters into their own hands and resorted to violence. We feel these isolated acts of violence are contrary to our prophet’s teachings. Throughout his life the prophet was the target of such attacks and he always prayed for those who tried to hurt him. Never did he resort to violence and aggression such as that shown by some individuals.
The Islamic Arts society believes that the best approach for us to show reverence and devotion for our beloved prophet is for our art society to invite artists to create art which expresses our love for the prophet.
